Researchers have unearthed an ID card issued by the Stasi, East Germany’s secret police, to a young Vladimir Putin, when he was a KGB officer in Dresden in the late 1980s. The document was reportedly found by chance when researchers from a media outlet requested documents from the archive of the Stasi Records Agency.
