News: Waitrose to be first supermarket to sell only UK lamb, as they say it is important to 'invest in British agriculture'

Waitrose is to be the first supermarket to only sell British lamb, as it phases out meat from New Zealand in order to "support UK agriculture." The retailer used to supplement its lamb range with New Zealand products in the winter months, but is to stop doing so by 2021. read more

Those going on strike include lecturers, student support services staff, admissions tutors, librarians, technicians and administrators. Prominent academics supporting the strike include Mary Beard, a leading Professor of Classics at the University of Cambridge, who said she "works 100 hours a week" and would therefore "not be crossing a picket line". read more

Russian President Vladimir Putin has given his approval for a new 3km bridge spanning the icy cold River Lena in Northern Siberia. The bridge, which is to be constructed within a budget of 83 billion Rubles (€1.17 billion), will lead from the settlement of Nizhny Bestyakh to the city of Yakutsk – reported to be the coldest city in the world – with temperatures having been recorded as low as -64.4°C. read more
